Dragons keep treasures. Our main character too. But one day he decided to discover what was in that trunk. So he decides to open it and he discovers a top-hat inside. Without any doubt he decides to take it. However, as soon as he starts to use the top-hat, he realizes that dragons don’t use top-hat but… why?
A surrealist story to discover the senseless of our personal tastes. A neverending picture book to play, to rhyme and to enjoy with the illogical. In addition, it is a book to invent and to ask ourselves: where did that hat come from? Who does it belong to? And those rabbits? A story that hides another story that is not told. A story to be imagining by the reader.
What do critics say about the book?
Why dragons don’t use a top-hat? is a familiar story for me. Its square shape and its colours in a white background make me feel at home. I feel confortable with Raquel Bonita’s lines. I find her “footprint” even when she doesn’t illustrate with her typical colour pencils. These illustrations have a old mature taste, like the drawings that we made when we were kids. When we stamped with potatoes on the paper. Raquel recreates this art technique with a professional touch that I don’t have.
The colorful geometric shapes form an original dragon who moves through the jungle. Each illustration is the result of a combination of triangles, squares, rectangles and circles ordered in a way that live together in a perfect harmony.
